About Castle Hill House - Self Catering Cottage Holidays


Castle Hill is a fascinating house of great character with Victorian and Georgian sections. It has gone through a programme of extensive refurbishment and is now beautifully presented through out. It is a wonderfully light house with high ceilings, deep windows, attractive archways, some stained glass windows, a glass cupola, glass chandeliers and a grand staircase. The large hall way leads to 2 reception rooms with one offering lovely views over the garden, has comfortable seating and a 50 inch flat screen TV. Also from the hall there is the utility room and kitchen which is complete with granite work tops and hand finished floor and wall units. The garden extending to just over half an acre is walled and very private and is laid to lawn with shrubbery borders. There is a patio area with seating and barbcue.

On the ground floor there is a family bedroom and on the first floor there are 7 bedrooms of which 5 are en suite, finished in a similar style with marble wall and floor tiles.

A £250 good house keeping deposit is required for this proeprty.

Places To Visit

This very generously proportioned house is in the village of Tutbury. Tutbury is an historic village on the banks of the River Dove surrounded by agriculture countryside of Derbyshire and Staffordshire. It has a number of pubs, eating places, craft and antique shops. Tutbury Castle stands in an elevated position above the village and Castle Hill House stands in the lee of the castle making a dramatic back to the house.

With excellent road links all of the attractions of Derbyshire and Staffordshire are easily accessible. Ashbourne is 15 miles away and is the gateway to the Peak District. Alton Towers is 16 miles, Drayton Manor Park 25 miles and the Snow Dome is easily accessible. Go-carting and paint-balling activities are available locally. The train station is a 5 minute walk and buses to Derby and Burton are available.

Derbyshire abounds with historic houses and parks. Many of these have been used recently as filming locations and they are all set in unspoilt countryside. There is Chatsworth, Kedleston, where The Duchess has been filmed, Sudbury, Haddon Hall, where Jane Eyre was filmed in the recent television series, Melbourne Hall, Wingfield Manor, Hardwick Hall, Shugborough Hall, Calke Abbey and Carnfield Hall. With Bolsover Castle and Ashby Castle there are many historic buildings to explore.

Meanwhile, tranquil parks and gardens encourage you to relax and enjoy the serenity, whilst if you visit Lea Rhododendron Gardens you will be greeted by one of the most glorious displays of colour to be found anywhere in Britain. At Belper River Gardens you can hire a boat or take a trip on the River Cruiser, then enjoy the superb visitor centre in the nearby historic Strutt's North Mill. Shipley Country park has a Visitors Centre, tea rooms and plenty of places to explore. The National Forest is within walking distance of several pubs and restaurants in the pleasant scenery of south Derbyshire.
