The owners of Askrigg Farm Cottages are a friendly local couple who live next door and will do all they can to ensure you enjoy your stay. They are farmers and deliver fresh milk, cream and eggs throughout Upper Wensleydale.

Both Faith Hill and Kirk Close Cottages are within easy reach of Askrigg, a character village set amidst the beautiful countryside of Upper Wensleydale. The views take in dry stone walled green meadows in which cows and sheep quietly graze, scattered clumps of trees, footpaths in every direction and the twisting course of the River Ure as it flows down the Dale, the backcloth of the dramatic upper fells. It is all here and has even achieved immortality by being portrayed in the TV vet series as James Herriot’s fictional village of Darrowby. This passing fame has not changed Askrigg in any way and it remains the typical gritty, working Dales village it always has been. There are a couple of shops a tea room, and you can get good bar snacks and meals at its three pubs and hotels. For those seriously into eating out there is also the highly recommended Rowan Tree Restaurant in the village to experience.

Places To Visit

Askrigg lies in the Wensleydale area that is famous for more than just its exceptional cheese. Waterfalls are a major feature of the area with our own in Askrigg, featuring on cinema and television screens as a perfect back to dramas, movies and series. These waterfalls make wet weather a bonus on your visit.

Once a small market town with 18 clock makers as its claim to fame, Askrigg has now become a village of over 300 residents and is recognised the world over as the location for television’s ever popular "All Creatures Great and Small" series. In spring, nature pulls out all the stops with slopes covered in primroses, followed by wild garlic and bluebells and the visitors know why this is one of the most popular destination areas in the Dales.

Askrigg has become a favourite too for arts and crafts enthusiasts and has encouraged professional arts and crafts people to work and live in its community. Painters, poets and potters now live and are inspired within this village.

The Yorkshire Dales National Park of which Askrigg is a part, offers visitors opportunities for many outdoor pursuits including walking, climbing, horse riding, bird watching and caving. For archaeologists there are many fascinating discoveries to be made, as this area has been inhabited since Roman times. Naturalists will find the area rich in bird and wildlife, flora and fauna. The Yorkshire Dales is an area of beautiful scenery, interesting towns and villages and many historic attractions to visit.

Places to visit include Bolton Castle, Aysgarth Falls, Hardraw Force Waterfall, Semer Water, Swaledale, Middleham Castle, Pendragon Castle, Nidderdale and Braithwaite Hall to name just a few.
